I recently purchased a copy of Starmap Pro for my iPod Touch after reading reviews of several astronomy applications. It includes a number of handy features including one I didn’t think to look for until after I purchased it: an observation list. When browsing objects, there’s always an option to add the current one to the Featured List. This lets you build a list for the night’s viewing at your leisure then head outside, bring up the featured list, and start pointing your telescope. This is a must-have feature.

Of course, Starmap Pro calculates the sky at any location and time, includes several catalogs of deep-space objects, and does all the things you’d expect from such an application. It even calculates the orbits of planetary moons!
