The aperture mechanism on my Tamron 28–300 VC failed while out for a hike in the Miller Peak Wilderness Area on 6 May 2009. All of a sudden, the viewfinder image became very dim because the aperture stopped opening completely when mounting the lens. The zoom also wouldn’t extend, and shaking the lens made a noise indicating that a small part had come loose.

I shipped the lens to Tamron via FedEx overnight on 8 May 2009. We’ll see how quickly they can turn it around.
